Brief Biography

John and his wife, Kelty, purchased the Florence Copeland Lumber yard in April of 2000 and thus began, PRO LUMBER. John's 25 years as a general contractor in the Florence area gives him a wonderful opportunity to bring his knowledge and experience to the store, both in products and materials available at the store for the coastal climate, as well as professional advice to Pro Lumber's customers.

Born and raised in Southern California, John and his young family relocated to Florence in 1977. He has been an active part of the growth and beautifying of Florence and the surrounding area due to his construction of fine custom homes, commercial construction of many new businesses and services, and the development of a lovely, quiet sub-division, Munsel Creek Estates. He was a hands-on contractor whose areas of expertise included design, land development, concrete foundations and flat work, custom framing and finish work, window & door installation, tile, wood flooring, heating systems, and so forth. His homes have won numerous awards in Florence's annual Home Builder's Association's, "Tour of Homes".

John and his wife, Kelty celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2002 and have 4 grown, married children and 7 grandchildren. After graduating from high school, John attended automotive technical school for two years and worked for two auto dealerships as a diagnostician and mechanic. Prior to relocating to Florence in 1977, John owned and operated an automotive repair shop, which included a sideline of building off-road racing engines and vehicles and racing part time. However, his desire was to re-enter the construction trade, as he had been involved in it for a good share of his life.

When John isn't at Pro Lumber, his hobbies include fabricating and building classic trucks (currently he's working on a 1956 Ford), building engines, fly fishing, skiing, and has recently been involved in Cowboy Action Shooting. He enjoys the challenge of customizing his ammo for authentic and reproductions of "cowboy" guns as used in the SASS (Single Action Shooter's Society) events.
